Athletics - Quad Kids Primary (Year 5/6) Level 2 Hunts SSP event
Tuesday 11th June 2013
Venue
St Ivo Athletics Track
Type of Competition
Athletics
Target School
Primary
Summary
LEVEL 2 Partnership event
If you would like to enter a second team, please contact the organiser direct.
Team Requirements: 4 boys & 4 girls
Teams can be single year group or a combination of both year 5 and 6 pupils.
Event
· All athletes will compete in four events a run, throw, jump and relay event
· Track and field events will be run as single sex events, the only exception being the Relay, where each team will be made up of 4 boys and 4 girls.
· Team Declaration forms will be supplied upon entry into competition.
Running:
On an athletics track/ grass or tarmac. For ease of judging finishing positions and recording times there should be a maximum of six athletes per heat for 75m and a maximum of 16 athletes per heat for 600m
· All athletes are put in individual lanes and must run the race in their own lane.
· Athletes take their marks behind the start line. The Starter will give them the instructions ‘On your marks, Set, Go'. (‘Go' can be a clacker, whistle, starting pistol or arm dropped). It is a false start if one or more of the athletes start to run before the Starter says ‘Go'. If that happens all the athletes in that race are recalled and the race is started again.
· Timekeepers will record athletes' times, spotters will record the finishing order of the athletes using their numbers
Vortex Howler:
· The athlete can throw the Vortex Howler from a standing position or run up and throw it.
· The athlete must throw the Vortex Howler over-arm in a ball throw/javelin action.
· The athlete must not step onto or cross the marked throwing line.
· Each athlete gets three consecutive throws.
· The athlete's foot must not touch or cross the marked throwing line nor can the Vortex Howler land outside the marked throwing area (this is a ‘no throw ‘and will not be measured)
The longest throw for each athlete is recorded on an Event Score Sheet
Standing Long Jump:
· The athlete jumps from a designated take off point
· The athlete does a two-footed jump from a standing start.
· The athlete must not step on or cross the designated take off point, if this happens the jump is a ‘no jump' and will not be measured.
· Each athlete has three jumps, they are not consecutive, all first round jumps are taken, followed by second round jumps, followed by third round jumps.
50m Relay:
Each team consists of four boys and four girls
· The event is run in lanes the change-over points will be marked with cones.
· The boys of each team are positioned on the start line and the girls on the finish line in the adjacent lane.
· Each athlete must run the race in his or her allocated lane.
· The first boy in each team stands behind the start line with the baton in his hand.
· The rules for starting and false starts are the same as for the 75m and 600m events.
· The first boy runs with the baton to the first girl who takes the baton and runs back to the second boy who takes the baton and so on until all eight athletes have run.
· If at any time during the race the baton is dropped the athlete who dropped it may pick it up and continue.
· The race can count towards the final position of the teams
Scoring: The time or distance for each event is measured against a standard of points scoring table and the better the performance the higher the number of points scored.
· The points from each event are added together to give the aggregate points or Quad Kids score for that athlete. If an athlete misses an event or in the case of a race does not finish they score zero points. If an athlete completes an event but records a time or distance below the lower end of the points scale, they receive the minimum 10 point score for that event. The program does this automatically. If an athlete records a time or distance above the upper end of the points scale, they will be given the maximum 100 points. For an individual competition where two athletes are tied on equal points and a winner is required the athlete with the highest points score in their weakest event will be the winner.
· Scoring is done as follows: When the athlete's number and the time/distance they have achieved are entered the program will automatically fill in the athlete's name and assign points. When all the results have been collated the ‘Club Score sheet' will automatically rank the schools and the ‘Athletes' tab will show individual athlete rankings.
Team Winners
The team that has the overall highest points total is the winner. This is calculated using the scores of the top four girls and top four boys in each team.
Individual Winners: The boy and girl who have the highest total points scored over the four events.
· Each school must provide one Official (TA/Teacher/Parent), to be involved in recording, timing, measuring etc…
· Each participant must wear the participants labels (supplied on entry), on the front of their t-shirt – it is recommended that each of the participants events are written on the front of this label as this will help us direct them to their event if they get confused
· Athletes must be dressed in suitable sports attire, i.e. shorts, t-shirt and clean trainers
Should any cases of dispute arise, the Competition Organiser's decision is final.

Competition Format: 8 game Skills Festival
Station 1: Bulls eye Station 2: Dominoes Station 3: Drive for show, putt for dough. Station 4: Finders Keepers Station 5: Grand National Station 6: Tunnel ball. Station 7: Zone ball Station 8: Down the middle Drive for show, putt for dough. Team of 5 on each tee (white cones). Each player aims to chip the ball in the air over the blue line of cones. If they are successful, they then earn a chance to putt the ball into the hoop. Each player only gets a putt if they hit the ball in the air over the blue cones. On the putt, the ball must stay in the half-hoop to score. 2 minutes practice (if time allows), 5 minutes play.
Scoring: Drive over blue cones on floor = 1 point Drive over blue cones in air = 5 points Putt to remain in half-cone = 10 points Putt - the ball must stop in the hoop to score. Finders keepers: Team of 5 on each tee (white cones). Putt the ball towards the cones, the first cone the ball hits, the player collects with the ball and returns it to the team. Pick up only 1 cone at a time and once all the cones have been collected the game ends. 2 minutes practice (if time allows), 5 minutes play.
Scoring Yellow hit = 10 point Blue hit = 5 points Green hit = 1 point Pick up one cone only Grand National Team of 5 on each tee (white cones). Chip the ball in the air over the ‘fences’ made from cones to score points. 2 minutes practice (if time allows), 5 minutes play.

Tunnel ball Team of 5 on each tee (white cones). Putt the ball down the tunnel towards the hoop without hitting any cones. Choose which tee you would like to play from – yellow, blue and green. The furthest tees will reward you with more points. 2 minutes practice (if time allows), 5 minutes play.
Scoring: Green = 1 point Blue = 5 points Yellow = 10 point The ball must stay in the hoop to score Zone ball Team of 5 on each tee (white cones). Lay out the cones so that they all touch.Try to hit the yellow or blue cones to score the highest. 2 minutes practice (if time allows), 5 minutes play.
Scoring Yellow cone = 10 points Blue cone = 5 points Green = 1 point Pupils can run out and collect the ball for each other but not wait behind the zone cones nor receive help from a teacher in collecting the balls Down the middle Team of 5 on each tee (white cones). Players start from the white cones and try to strike the ball in between the lines of green cones (fairway) and over blue cones (river) in turn.
2 minutes practice (if time allows), 5 minutes play.
Scoring: Over the river rolling = 1 point, Over the river in the air = 5 points Over the river and on the correct fairway and landing before the white cones = 10 points The ball must land over the blue cones and within the same fairway as the tee.
Team Requirements: Teams of 5
Equipment: Tri-Golf equipment (this can be loaned by Hunts SSP)
Bullseye: Team of 5 on each tee (white cones). If possible elevate the target by resting it on a chair so that it faces the pupils at an angle. Chip the ball in the air aiming at the centre of the target. Balls should not be collected until all balls have been hit and a command has been given. 2 minutes practice (if time allows), 5 minutes play. Scoring Yellow inner = 10 points Inside green = 5 points Blue circle = 4 points Middle green = 3 points Red circle = 2 points Outer green = 1point The Score is taken from where the ball hits the target not where it stops
Dominoes: Team of 5 on each tee (white cones). 10 cones of the same colour are in a straight line from the player. Players try to roll the ball with the putter to hit the cone nearest to them, if the player hits the cone they collect it. 2 minutes practice (if time allows), 5 minutes play. Team continues until all cones are hit. Score 1 point for green cones, 5 points for blue cones, 10 points for yellow cones. When all the dominoes are completed, lay them out using the putter to measure and play again.
